“Because I have a brother, I’ll always have a friend”

“I have found out there is no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain
Travel can bring out the best in us. Discovering a new place, leaving the stresses of everyday life behind and meeting new people can really make us put our best foot forward.
It can also bring out the worst in us; deciding where to stay, not understanding the language, getting lost. Situations can be made worse if you’re with the wrong travel partner.
My brother, Elias, and I didn’t know how our first road trip together would go. We both joked that by the end of the first day we’d both be ready to turn back.
With 13 years separating us, we’re different and we also know which buttons to push to annoy the other.
But after the 3rd day of non-stop laughs, deep conversations, hiking and drinking lots of beer, I can say this trip solidified our bond.

Therein lies the beauty of travel. The places, memories, moments and feelings are special to all of you at that particular place and instant in time. They bind travel companions together forever.
I realized how much love I had for him. The little boy who ran around in his Spider-Man underwear, who looked up to me like a superhero, was grown up.
He’s a young man who I admire, who has helped me in my darkest moments and celebrated with me in my happiest. A young man who’s creativity inspires me to explore that part of myself. A young man who’s infectious laughter has the ability to brighten anyone’s day.

My Brother
I hope that I still inspire you. There’s a big world out there full of possibilities, waiting for you to explore and share your gifts with.
My brother, I wish you sunshine always and forever. I’m looking forward to more trips together.
